About Katie

Katie obtained her professional qualification in nutritional therapy and applied nutrition following 4 years’ training at the renowned Institute of Optimum Nutrition (ION) in London.

Having been brought up in the hotel and restaurant trade, Katie has always had a passion for great quality food. As a teenager she became interested in the ethical, environmental and human health issues surrounding food production, but it wasn’t until her work as a Researcher on a cookery programme for BBC television that she learned enough to change the way she shopped and ate forever. Within a couple more years she had progressed to Director/Assistant Producer at the BBC and become part of a BAFTA award-winning team, but her interest in the healing properties of food continued to grow.

In 2001 Katie became Chief Executive of Astro Fund, a charity she founded to fund research into low-grade (slow growing) brain tumours and to offer support to patients and carers affected by this challenging disease. Katie is also a Founder Member of the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA), helping to increase collaboration among the global brain tumour community, and was Highly Commended in the Beacon Fellowship Award for New Initiatives 2007, in recognition of an “outstanding” contribution to charitable and social causes.

Katie is now a sessional lecturer and module leader on the postgraduate MSc Nutritional Therapy course at The University of Worcester, and delivers all the academic lectures for the Diploma in Naturopathic Nutrition at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in Manchester. Katie also runs a successful practice in Cheshire where she works with people who are looking for help with a wide range of health issues. Katie has a special interest in helping people to cope with anxiety, grief, depression and stress related conditions.
